Matt Laud is a New York–based filmmaker and editor. He directs and edits projects where story, tone, and execution have to hold together all the way to delivery.

He received his MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied directing, writing, and editing with filmmakers including Spike Lee and Todd Solondz. There, he learned how strong productions unlock strong stories… and how comedy can uncork the most serious subject.

His independent work includes narrative shorts, documentary, and dark comedy. His short film Les Hommes Sans screened at the Austin Film Festival, and The Nathan was selected as one of Funny or Die’s Best of the Web.

In the commercial space, Matt has directed and contributed to branded and public-service work for clients including the CDC, Visa, Ford, Nespresso, and the NFL. His PSA for the CDC about the opioid epidemic is currently used as training material for healthcare providers in the New York area.

As an editor, you bring him in to protect story, pacing, and tone. And if you need someone for comedy, there’s nobody better. As a post-supervisor, he handles the technical and logistical side so the director doesn’t have to. (As a director himself, he gets that).

He’s based in New York City.
